Ann Arbor Surgery Center was developed with a group of experienced physicians interested in providing the best in outpatient care for the Ann Arbor community.

 

The AASC team of the physicians are seeking to partner with like-minded physicians who are looking for a state-of-the-art outpatient facility to meet the needs of their patients. Outpatient surgery in Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) has experienced remarkable growth over the past decade, driven by significant clinical and economic benefits for patients, physicians, and the healthcare industry. Dr. Louis Bojrab

MD, FIPP

Dr. Louis Bojrab is in demand for patients with complex spine problems. He develops a relationship with patients like no other doctor. His passion is endoscopic spine surgery for lumbar stenosis and herniations. (formally known as laser spine surgery). He was the first interventionist in Michigan to perform Laser Spine Surgery.

He is passionate about new technology to get complex patients the most effective, least risk solutions to their spine pain problems. He is Principal Investigator in multiple Multi-Center research studies for Spinal Cord Stimulation, Vertiflex, and MILD procedures.

If you have a complex spine problem and want to be comfortable with your doctor, he is the person for you.

Dr. Edward Washabaugh

MD, FIPP

Dr. Edward Washabaugh was born in Bay City, Michigan and he is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Medicine and the College of Literature, Science and Arts. His residency in anesthesiology was at the University of Iowa. He is a Fellow of Interventional Pain Practice. Dr. Washabaugh has 25 years’ experience in interventional pain management with special clinical and research interests in spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pain pumps and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He is a founding member of Michigan Pain Specialists. In addition to his medical practice, he is on the executive board of the Michigan Society of Interventional Pain Physicians and Washtenaw County Medical Society.

Dr. Washabaugh is board certified in pain management by the American Board of Pain Medicine and has added qualifications in pain management by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is re-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is a member of the American Medical Association and the Michigan State Medical Society. Dr. Washabaugh resides in Ann Arbor, MI with his wife and has three children and one grandchild.

Dr. John Chatas

MD, FIPP

Dr. Chatas has been a member of the Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital (SJMH) medical staff in Ann Arbor as an Interventional Pain Specialist since 1991. Dr. Chatas has hospital privileges at ProMedica (Bixby Hospital, and Chelsea.

 

Dr. Chatas has a Subspecialty Certification in Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiologists. In 2007, Dr. Chatas achieved the highest certification possible in his field by becoming a Fellow of the World Institute of Pain. He is also Board Certified by the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians. In 2009, Dr. Chatas was recognized by his peers as one of the Southeast Michigan’s “Top Doctors” in his specialty of Pain Medicine.

Dr. Chatas specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of painful conditions related to the spine.

Dr. Chatas has expertise in using, and teaching, advanced interventional pain treatments including:

    • Percutaneous Vertebroplasty (cementing of fractured back bones)
    • Spinal Cord Stimulation for back, leg, neck, or arm pain 
    • Management of Medtronic Intrathecal (spinal) pumps
    • Minimally invasive disc surgery for the neck, chest, and lower back
    • Radiofrequency Lesioning (nerve cauterization treatments) of spinal nerves for the treatment of arthritic conditions of the head, neck, and back
    • Vertiflex and MILD for symptomatic lumbar stenosis

Training

Dr. John Chatas was born and raised in Ann Arbor, MI. He earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Michigan School of Public Health and a Medical Degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1987. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan and became a Board Certified Anesthesiologist in 1991.

Dr. Maxwell Dixon

MD

Maxwell Dixon, M.D. is a board-certified, fellowship-trained ophthalmologist at Huron Ophthalmology, serving patients in Ann Arbor. Dr. Dixon specializes in cataract surgery and glaucoma treatment.

 

Dr. Dixon is a graduate of the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and fellowship in glaucoma at Washington University in St. Louis. He returned to his home state of Michigan to join Huron Ophthalmology in 2021.

 

Dr. Dixon is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Glaucoma Society. He has also published and reviewed numerous peer-reviewed articles in journals such as JAMA Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology Glaucoma, Ophthalmology Retina, Ophthalmic Genetics, and Cornea and presented at medical conferences nationally.

 

He is trained in the latest surgical techniques including small-incision cataract surgery, advanced technology intraocular lenses, and micro-invasive glaucoma surgery in addition to traditional glaucoma surgeries for advanced disease. Outside of work, Dr. Dixon enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, photography, and cooking overly elaborate meals.

Biljana Trujillo

President and CEO, CPA

Biljana Trujillo is the President and CEO of American Surgical Group, and its consolidated companies within American Surgical Management Corporation and American Surgical Centers. Together with their health systems and physician partnerships, ASG develops, owns and manages freestanding ambulatory surgical centers and medical center facilities in the United States. In her role, Mrs. Trujillo is responsible for the organization’s growth and partnership experience, including surgical center development, project management, and all company business administration functions.

Biljana has accumulated more than two decades in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations leadership roles. She began her career at Caine Steel of Michigan Inc. and moved to Metropolitan Alloys Corp., a leading international metals supplier, headquartered in Michigan. Biljana spend a year as a Corporate Controller at Applied Process, a world leader in austempering and metallurgical engineering. She held position as the Director of Finance and Administration for American Surgical Centers Inc. for over 10 years, responsible for the overall financial reporting and accounting functions of the company, as well as other administration functions like Tax, Treasury, Internal Audit, Payroll, and Human Resources.

Biljana is a Certified Public Accountant in State of Michigan, Her credentials include a BS in Accounting from Oakland University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Michigan Association of Certified Public Accountants.
